Described by locals as a ‘decaying eyesore’, 28 Mount Wise, Newquay, was purchased by Newquay Town Council following public calls for the structure to be brought back into use for the benefit of the community. The extensive transformation project focused on breathing new life into the building by creating ‘multi-use’ spaces, including function areas that can be hired out for community events and office spaces for local businesses; which included the provision of on-site parking and kitchen facilities.
Leading the refurbishment and alteration works for the local authority, we first stripped the building in its entirety, while undertaking a complete reconfiguration of its internal layout. This also included making repairs to the fabric of the building to ensure it was not only safe, but fit for purpose and occupation.
Just some of the extensive works carried out included, the installation of a new passenger lift, internal decoration, structural alterations and the installation of all heating and electrical systems. Along with a new roof, windows and external paintwork, major renovation works were undertaken to almost every area of the building.
Regenerated to the highest standards and completed in just six months, 28 Mount Wise is now a high quality, modern business and community space, unrecognisable from its previous derelict state. Now an asset to the local community, the building has been regenerated to not only meet the needs of its surrounding environment, but also for the benefit of those who live and work in the area.
