Fire service professionals play a critical role in protecting and preventing people from fires, as well as other dangers. However, when off-duty, these everyday heroes require uninterrupted rest to ensure they are prepared to respond quickly when faced with the next incoming emergency.
Located in the heart of Plymouth, Greenbank Fire Station professionals were struggling to sleep easy, with the building’s fatigued flat roof, located directly above the firefighter’s rest area, suffering from water ingress.
Requiring urgent renewal, our team of roofing experts led the replacement and refurbishment of the extensive flat roof area, which included installing a new, built-up, two-layer Garland StressPly system. This high performance, modified bitumen waterproof membrane system provides unparalleled protection, ensuring the fire station and its occupants could continue their life-saving work without any threat from the elements.
Alongside the flat roofing works, we also removed and re-installed the existing air handling unit (AHU), as well as the extract duct system, which was renewed and re-insulated. Following the completion of works, the AHU was re-commissioned to full working order. New electric black-out blinds were also installed, alongside the new skylights, directly above the firefighter’s rest pods.
As a hive of activity, and with the building in constant use, we carried out works safely and securely, with no interruptions to the station’s daily emergency activities.
