Summer is often one of our busiest periods for works in the education sector, and 2023 proved to be no different, with our team completing projects across the region for a variety of clients; from schools and colleges, to universities. One of these was located at Launceston College, with TEC undertaking the replacement of its existing roof covering.
Focused on its music block, and working with the Athena Learning Trust, all works were required to be completed during the summer holidays to ensure minimal disruption to daily operations. The programme also focused on a phased approach, to minimise risk, while ensuring best construction quality.
Commencing on site, the TEC team first focused on removing the existing, failing roof covering, which included all battens, nails, underfelts and tiles. To protect the structure at all times, we strategically removed materials in stages and during extended dry periods, ensuring no part of the building was left open to the elements.
Building up a new weatherproof system, we installed new materials, including underfelts, battens and finally new concrete tiles – all in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. Other works included, leadworks, new guttering, installation of lightning protection, and carrying out repairs to the existing fascia and soffits. The TEC team also completed all associated decoration works.
Completing on programme, and leaving all areas both wind and watertight, Launceston College now has a new roof covering which features some of the best in industry materials. Utilising our skilled workforce, all works were subject to the strictest in quality control procedures. Now a functional and aesthetically pleasing addition to the school, the new roof offers long term weather protection, without compromising on quality.
