Mount Kelly College, a leading private, independent school in Tavistock founded in 1877, was seeking to improve dormitory facilities at Courtenay House for the benefit of male students, aged between 13-18.
Leading works, TEC focused on carrying out all elements of the extensive project, while respecting the heritage of the historic structure. Refurbishing the building, internally and externally, TEC carried out upgrades to nearly every element of the accommodation block, including full decoration and fit out to dormitories and communal spaces for male pupils.
TEC also carried our vital improvements to the building fabric, completing extensive roof refurbishment and repair works to ensure the structure was protected from the elements. This included designing and providing specialist scaffolding access, as well as carrying out roof upgrades to a 96m flat roof, and pitched roof.
Additional works included renewing all heating and electrical systems, installing new fire doors and frames across the structure, and creating two new kitchen spaces. The determination and commitment by the TEC team was commended by the college, with the Head Master, Guy Ayling also saying: “The pupils are front and centre of course and this renovation is the latest chapter in the story of this building; the story of the hundreds who have passed through it, and the many more who will come.”
