City College Plymouth invested more than £2.5million into developing modern and innovative learning spaces with cutting-edge technology, to meet the evolving needs of employers across Plymouth and the South West. Focusing on expanding its T-Level curriculum in three key areas – engineering and manufacturing, health and science, and business, TEC led all elements of redevelopment works.
The project focused on two areas -the Tower Block and Engineering Block – in the heart of the City College Plymouth campus, with works significantly improving and enhancing internal teaching spaces. This included reconfiguring, upgrading and refurbing the internal layout. Creating new classrooms, improving existing training areas for the benefit of students, with the provision of larger practical learning spaces and workshops, just some of the works included:
- Installation of new electrical systems
- Full decoration and internal fit-out
- Upgrade of all fire safety systems
- Installation of ‘Gold Standard’ fire doors
- Construction of new partition walls
- Installation of new windows
- Installation of new external facade cladding
- Upgrade to existing entrance area, including the installation of sliding doors.
TEC worked with the college to ensure the delivery of the project was as efficient as possible, while also making sure that the works did not impact students during the exam period. This included undertaking a phased approach to the project; working in areas which were no longer being used for teaching to minimise disruption as much as possible. All works were completed and open to both students and staff on programme, at the start of a new school term.
