West Hoe Toilet Block, Plymouth

Offering stunning coastal views, Plymouth’s Hoe is one of the city’s most popular tourist destinations, welcoming over 5 million visitors every year. Located just a stone’s throw away from the main promenade, West Hoe Park is a favourite with families, featuring a children’s play park, crazy golf, and a miniature railway.

However, despite its popularity, its existing, aged toilet block was severely fatigued and required urgent attention ahead of the city’s busy summer season.

Undertaking a design and build approach, and working with Plymouth City Council, we removed the existing toilet block, as well as providing the concrete slab and drainage in preparation for the arrival of a new, high quality modular unit; featuring eight unisex cubicles and two accessible toilets.

Featuring a standout curved aluminium roof, our skilled team of bricklayers also constructed a limestone wall on the block’s exterior to mark the park’s origins as a limestone quarry. Landscaping and planting also helped to ensure the new structure integrated and enhanced the surrounding picturesque green park environment.

Leading the project from start to finish – from initial concept drawings to handing over a fit-for-purpose, high quality public convenience facility – the new toilet block is already a much welcome, firm fixture on Plymouth’s waterfront.
