Our operations Director, Martin Bowman, is donning his hiking gear and heading to Everest! Set to take on the epic trek to Everest Base Camp, Martin and five friends will be taking on the mammoth hike to Everest Base Camp, which sits over 5,000m above sea level.
Undertaking a rigorous 12-month training programme ahead of the challenge – which takes place in February 2023 – Martin will follow in the footsteps of all Everest summiteers, while raising funds for mental health charity, Mind. As an organisation which has long been close to Martin’s heart, he has previously scaled Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the charity.
With 48% of construction workers taking time off work due to unmanageable stress, alongside a reported third of workers suffering from severe levels of anxiety every day, Martin said: “Over the years I’ve been touched by friends and work colleagues speaking with frank honesty about their struggles, and I want there to be a world where mental health issues carry no stigma and people can feel safe talking about their feelings without being judged”.
With a longstanding reputation of supporting and enhancing communities through the provision of quality construction solutions, this isn’t the first time a TEC team member has taken on a challenge to raise awareness and funds for a charitable cause. Known for his passion for cycling, TEC Site Manager, Phil Jensen, has previously cycled from Cornwall to Lincolnshire, covering over 400 miles in just seven days – raising over £4,500 for Mind!
We are proud to support Mind, as well as the local communities in which we operate, and have big plans for 2023 to take our commitment to creating positive change one step further. Stay tuned for more information…coming soon!
